Bread Proof Monitor
Set up your monitor.
Install the software over USB, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow your dough from your phone.
Connect and install
For an ESP32 Dev Module with 4 MB flash, including the ELEGOO EL-SM-012. Have a USB data cable and a desktop or laptop ready.
- Plug the board into your computer. Close Arduino IDE's serial monitor or any other app using its USB connection.
- Click Connect, choose your board, then select Install.
- For a first installation, select Erase device. Leave the board connected until installation finishes and it restarts.
Loading the installer…
Chrome and Edge are good choices. Firefox needs Web Serial support. Safari, iPhone, iPad, and Android aren't supported by this installer.
Updating an existing monitor?
Use the same button. If it already runs Bread Proof Monitor with the 4 MB / Huge APP layout, leave Erase device unchecked to keep its settings.
Erasing removes Wi-Fi details, calibration, proof progress, your ntfy topic, and learned targets. You'll need to complete setup again. Update between proofs.
Connect it to your Wi-Fi
After installation, leave the board powered on. On your phone or computer:
- Open your phone or computer's Wi-Fi settings and join ProofMonitor-Setup. The password is
sourdough. Stay connected even if your device says there is no internet. - Open http://192.168.4.1.
- Choose your home Wi-Fi and enter its password. For phone alerts, copy the generated topic and subscribe to it in the ntfy app.
- Save and wait for the monitor to restart, then reconnect your phone or computer to your home Wi-Fi.
An updated monitor with working saved Wi-Fi will reconnect on its own. USB installation ends before Wi-Fi setup; you don't need the installer's optional console to continue.
Start your first proof
Open http://proofmonitor.local on your home network.
- Choose a bread profile and apply its target.
- With the container empty and the lid in place, press Set Empty Setup.
- Add the dough, let the lid settle, and press Set Starting Dough Height.
Follow the dashboard for folds and the next step. Pause monitoring before lifting the lid, and check your dough when a target is reached.
Something not working?
The board isn't in the USB list
Try another data cable or USB port. Close apps using the board's serial port. If the computer still can't see it, check the USB-to-serial driver supplied by your board manufacturer.
The installer can't connect to the board
Unplug and reconnect it, then try again. If necessary, hold BOOT while connection begins and release it when writing starts. Select the original ESP32 board; this firmware isn't for C3, S3, or P4 chips.
I can't find the setup Wi-Fi network
Allow the board to restart. Press its EN / Reset button if needed. If you updated without erasing, it may already be on your saved home network.
proofmonitor.local doesn't open
Make sure you're on the same home network. Use the monitor's IP address from your router's connected-device list if the name doesn't resolve.
The dashboard can't find a sensor
Check power and ground on both breakouts. This project uses GPIO22 for SDA and GPIO21 for SCL. Reboot after reconnecting the sensors.
